Hello, I booked first class Advance tickets Newark to Edinburgh for Friday and return on Monday. I'm now thinking about not going - I sometimes don't sleep very well and get very tired. The LNER website says that refunds are not available for Advance tickets although they can be changed for a fee/extra cost of new journey - however, when I went into my tickets yesterday there was a button to press for refund. It says that it will take ten days to process though. I'm now considering what to do - whether to (a) not travel and lose the money (b) change the tickets to another date (although I don't have the energy to think about this at the moment) (c) take the risk that the tickets will be refunded in time. Does anyone have any experience of getting a refund on advance tickets booked with LNER please? Thank you.

@Carly78. Welcome to the forum. Concur with @richardderby, although others may consider otherwise. Reckon that you'll probably only get a refund if the train(s) on which you are booked get cancelled, unless the cancellation request is made within two hours of initial booking, whenever that was. Hope that helps!

You won't be refunded. Those tickets are non refundable unless you are claiming not to have travelled due to rail disruption.

Get in touch with them, and ask to swap the tickets to a future date. This is your only option with Advance tickets.

You can change them online - follow the instructions on LNER's website. Agree that they are not refundable unless there is disruption.
Won't be able to do that if the OP has already requested a refund.

Thanks. I don't have any reason to go in Edinburgh in the future, so there isn't any benefit in changing them. If they are non-refundable (and that's fair enough) then I would be better off not travelling and losing the money. It is odd though that there is a button to press for refund if they are not refundable.

Ah, I read it that the OP wasn't sure about whether to request a refund or not, there are two possible readings of the original post. If they did request a refund (bit rubbish that the site lets you do so when it's not permitted, unless the OP incorrectly selected that their journey had been disrupted or something) then they will indeed need to contact customer services to have the refund request cancelled, then presumably can change them as they require. I'd suggest due to the timescales this will need to be by telephone.

Keep an eye on your original booked train service. If it happens to be cancelled or severely delayed you can claim a full refund from the retailer
