LNER onboard upgrades - time restrictions?

The LNER website says they're 'available on off-peak services'. But there are no off-peak fares between Newcastle-London any more.

Am I supposed to remember which trains used to be off-peak, or play around with Finsbury Park, Blaydon, or whatever other fake destination we're using at the moment?

It used to be trains arriving into London after 1100, IIRC. And trains departing London before 1500 or from 1900, but that's no longer written anywhere.

The fixed-price upgrades are available on services where Super Off-Peak tickets are/were valid. The fares still exist for plenty of origin/destination pairs but the simple option is to look up the restriction code at nre.co.uk/XX - with the codes being 1L (southbound) or 9D (northbound).

I agree that LNER ought to spell it out (or define it) more clearly.

I've actually found another page on the LNER website which appears to spell out off-peak trains in general terms, not by route. It's different from, and more generous than the restriction codes above (which are roughly what I remember from the Newcastle route).

Off-Peak tickets are not valid for travel on north bound trains departing London between 06.45 and 07.58 (Monday to Thursday*) or between 15.58 and 17.45 (Monday to Thursday* inclusive).

Trains travelling south​

Off-Peak tickets are not valid for travel on southbound trains that arrive into London before 10.08 (Monday to Thursday*)

No, but all bar one call at York and have Off Peak fares for that journey segment.
