Does anyone know why the LNER website won't sell Groupsave discounted tickets or travelcards for SWR. I tried to book Havant to London with a Travelcard for 5 adults at the weekend and it will only sell me a full price off peak travelcard for a total of £249 (5x£49.80) which is the full price. It won't offer the £36.80 Groupsave fare. When I do 4 adults with a network card it will sell that at the correct price. It also won't sell the Southern routed Travelcard either.

It will if you select a destination of London Terminals or, for example, London Bridge. If you select Waterloo it will only offer tickets routed 'Any Permitted'.

It's not just SWR, it seems to have lost the ability to sell them at all.

Rookie error on the southern one my end! Rather annoying on Groupsave given I bought a load of LNER vouchers to get he 10% discount and now it can't sell me the tickets I want! If they want us to switch to using apps not ticket offices surely this is madness and also leads to unknowing people being overcharged.

Be patient - I suspect Groupsave will return quite swiftly.

I am confused as to why a ticket that has been around for years is not available on LNER's site. However, I note hidden away on their main website in https://www.lner.co.uk/tickets-savings/competitions-offers-and-events/offers-and-discounts/savings-for-small-groups/#:~:text=GroupSave%20discounts%20are%20not%20available,not%20available%20via%20LNER%20platforms:

GroupSave discounts are not available for travel with LNER but are available when travelling with participating operators. GroupSave discounted tickets are not available via LNER platforms.

So to be clear, we apparently need to search through an operators whole site before using their ticket app to ensure that they haven't made a conscious decision to ban certain discounts or discounted tickets. How is this impartial retailing as they are deliberately and knowingly overcharging passengers for tickets and the tickets they are selling do not come with any warning to passengers that they could be substantially cheaper on another site. I get operator specific tickets sometimes having that issue but not something nationwide like GroupSave.

Worse still, the above disclaimer appears to only be on their website. On their App, even the group booking FAQ's don't mention that they will overcharge groups booking by not selling GroupSave for perfectly valid journeys.

I just checked CrossCountry, who also don't accept GroupSave, and they will not only sell it but also, when you put in 5 people they flash up a notice on the screen telling you to get GroupSave!

To be honest your a braver man than me, its a Scum Express Diversion weekend at Havant. For reasons that I dont understand this has inevitably descended in to utter chaos in recent years.

It certainly has been in the past but you had to select it from the list of railcards. I don’t know when that changed but the response in not making the unavailability of Groupsave clear is awful.

And the government think instead of one national retailer, there should be 20+ chances for passengers to get confused and be charged incorrect amounts on websites doing their own thing!

Is Groupsave available via the third party apps, such as Trainpal, Ticketsplit, Trainline, etc, etc?

If so, makes sense to just use one of those, rather than a specific operators app for tickets.

Or a ticket office.

Surely this would be available from the SWR website however?

Our site (powered by Trainsplit) will do it!

The problem is that companies like LNER have access to taxpayers' funds, to implement incentives for people to purchase tickets through their website.

This entices people (such as the original poster) into wanting to use those websites, rather than ours, even though the prices charged may be higher on LNER than what we charge.

We don't have taxpayers funding our site to give away cashback, however what we do have is a system which often finds cheaper combinations of tickets than the through fare charged by train companies, and a free seat selector (where applicable).

If anyone uses our site, they would get access to discounts such as GroupSave, and would be paying no more than the price charged by train companies (indeed in some cases, we will charge less) and you would also be helping us maintain the forum and associated activities. We are very grateful for people using our site, and this contributes a four-figure sum each year towards our costs (we run on a not for profit basis).
