(reposted - I think I may have initially posted in the incorrect thread)

My family has in their possession two Smokebox number plates of 2 X LNER J10s.

I believe the two locomotives in question were scrapped around 1960/1961.

Is anyone able to advise if there is any market for smokebox number plates (I know their is for nameplates etc) and be able to give a rough estimate of their value?

For information they are in the condition they were originally sent in back in 1961, ie there has been no restoration or touching up.

Please let me know if there is any more information that you need

Many Thanks

You are very fortunate to have these smoke box number plates , especially in their original condition from withdrawal of the locomotives.
There is most definitely a market for these and such plates frequently make three or four figure sums at auction depending on the locomotives, rarity, shed allocations etc.
From personal experience I would highly recommend Great Central Railwayana or Great Western Railwayana auction houses which are both based in the midlands. Both of these have very good reputations and are well respected in the world of collecting (other auction houses are available).
If you have a back story and provenance to the origins of the plates then so much the better.
