LNER cab and sim

Around about 1981 my mate and I asked the driver of a double at Bristol Temple Meads if we could travel in the cab. He let us. All the way to Frome. The driver was probably late 50s or early 60s so I won't be getting him in trouble now.
I sometimes think back and reckon it was probably a big no no even back then. It was just getting dusk leaving Bristol and pitch black by time we got to Frome so maybe he thought no one would notice.

I can vouch for abroad probably being a better bet if you want a cab ride on the fly.

Back in 2019 I was on an Interrail and took a small ČD 810 unit up from Hostivice to Noutonice. After I snapped a photo at the terminus, the driver ushered me into the cab and was all smiles, despite the language barrier. It was a pleasant little ride in the secondman's seat back down to Hostivice.
