Looks like further disruption & uncertainty from the end of the month on the East Coast Main Line.

What is could mean is LNER ending up in a similar position to Avanti as to timetable offerings and short-notice cancellations.

That's how I interpret the day-to-day effect; strikes would be a separate matter - particularly as they don't only involve ASLEF.

From what I get here, the issue is mainly being "asked" to do things.

Drivers have been asked to work in what should be their block annual leave, or have turns extended, forcing them to work longer hours than agreed for normal rostering.’

I agree it's not the best way if its continuously happening, but ultimately you just say "No thanks". I wonder if it is has actually moved from asking to begging and pestering. Overtime here and there I'm sure people are happy to do, and every company has a range; some people will do every RDW going, others will never do it and everyone in between.

Unless some sort of deal is reached then I would imagine there will be more in the way of Aberdeen/Inverness services starting/terminating Edinburgh along with some Edinburgh services starting/terminating Newcastle in both directions where crew relief becomes an issue. It has been happening to an extent in the last few weeks but essentially if drivers refuse to come off roster, it becomes increasingly difficult to match up diagrams in a full timetable as we’ve seen at the likes of Preston with Avanti.

Yes, helped by the very poor pandemic timetable they continue to operate. LNER have long been back to a full service which will make things very tricky. Recently announced that they are at 106% of passenger numbers compared to 2019 & about to open Christmas bookings. Let’s hope something gives.

I think this is a serious test for LNER's management. If it will cause them issues, a feasible emergency timetable must be declared sooner rather than later.

If they fail to handle that well, they're no better than Avanti.

Or they could agree a sensible deal and address the concerns of the staff… I suspect a lot will depend on the DfT allowing them the flexibility to do that.

Well, that would be the ideal, but if it's not feasible to do that immediately due to DaFT constraints...
