I've had that before but one of them was only a single 5% off, the other a multi-use 5%. They stacked to 10% so I made sure to purchase some gift vouchers!
This time round I've got 5% on each of my two AMEX cards.
Damn. I have two 5% offers too. I only added one, as I assumed only one could be used at a time and that it was an error. Didn't realise they stacked. I'll add the second one if it's still there!
Thanks - had assumed the app would have the same functionality as the SWR app which just does it via the phone. Will just make do with a paper ticket while the cashback offer is ongoing!
One is a commuter TOC that has a large Smartcard base the other is a long distance leisure TOC with a relatively small commuter base . Given the fact that theres a National Rail Smartcard Manager App that does the Smartcard loading why duplicate it in a TOC app?
I don’t really understand the logic of this offer. Mine keeps renewing at 10% despite me already being a profilic purchaser of rail tickets. All ive done is move spending that I would have made anyway with other ticket sellers to LNER. it feels like a bit of a waste of taxpayers money.

Have to say I largely agree. Also I bet it's meant to encourage people to travel LNER, yet the vast majority of times I've just booked my tickets through them and travelled elsewhere (Mostly Northern, TPE and Grand Central, with some Hull Trains thrown in for good measure). However, curiously, would we say the same about a Great British Railways ticketing site offer for an integrated national railway? It could encourage rail travel in general with the new publicly owned service, which I would support. So I suppose it depends on the specifics in a funny way.

I have no data, but I suspect credit card cashback has a higher engagement rate than merchant specific loyalty programmes, outside of a few exceptions (eg. Tesco Clubcard).
It's hard to build a balanced rewards programme and get consumer engagement with it. Amex have already done that hard work, and have a strong reputation & customer engagement with their rewards programme - that's why brands pay for it.
Their target is probably Trainline. Whether that's to change customer behaviour or get data is anyone's guess - a mix of both probably.
I don't think they'll just be throwing money away for the sake of it, but I agree there isn't a really obvious motivation
My latest LNER cashback offer is for just 5%, but only on purchases of at least £30. My usual Avanti journey involves a split with one leg costing £25.10 and the other £22.90. As mentioned by others, it's impossible to put these through LNER for cashback anymore (unless someone knows a backdoor way of adding a second ticket to the same basket).
I do have four credit cards with a 5% Avanti cashback, so I can use that, but it's a one-time use only on each, so they'll be consumed quite quickly. (And past experience of basketing lots of journeys in one transaction with Avanti is that it gets itself into a mess and fails pretty quickly.)

On that subject, last summer I had two 5% cashback offers that stacked, so I bought £1,000 in LNER vouchers and used them mainly for commuting. That worked fine.
In December/Jan this year I had a 2% LNER cashback offer and I bought about £240 in vouchers (enough for three 7-day Travelcards). I spent the first £81 on my usual Inboundary Z1-6 7-day Travelcard, and that was fine.
Then last Friday, I tried to buy my usual ticket and got "an unexpected error occurred". I raised it with LNER as a bug and they're now saying "we don't sell London Travelcards online".
I'm just glad this didn't happen when I was holding £1K in vouchers!
Let this be a cautionary tale to anyone using the vouchers as a workaround; they can just withdraw the ticket(s) you want to buy from their product range and leave you with vouchers you might not want.

How strange. I can get LNER's website to show a travelcard for a journey like Hadley Wood to Twickenham so is it coming up with the unexpected error when you get to the payment stage?

I have bought maybe a dozen inboundary 7 day Z1-6 Travelcards from LNER before and had always put the origin as any random station in Z1-6 and the destination as 'London Zones 1-6'. See example image from one of the email confirmations below. It seems to be queries from anywhere to London Zones 1-6 that gives 'unexpected error' all of a sudden.
Your workaround of picking a station pair within Z1-6, ideally as far apart as possible so the Travelcard pops up as the cheapest option, works, so thanks for that! (It's actually what I used to do before I realised there was a 'london zones 1-6' option).
