I hope the LM twitter feed retains its personality. With both theirs and GoVia 's Southern you feel like there's a human at the end of the feed. Compare that to Southeastern's Twitter feed which only offers updates and refuses to acknowledge or reply to questions.

The metro (and the traditional media at large) haven't fully understood what trolling is yet (or wilfully ignoring it). As companies use social media more and more they will need to be aware of trolls. This puts companies in a tough spot because by being restrained they're feeding the troll but telling them to f*ck off would hurt their reputation. As someone who is unsure of the mechanics of twitter can LM ban trolls (not without its dangers to reputation itself)

I'd be interested to see the rest of the feed the Metro article implies that this guy was not alone in his anger but it's plausible that nobody agreed with him.

I'm quite impressed that in one tweet he managed to include:

- An elementary grammatical error
- A homophobic insult from The Inbetweeners
- Two sexual swear words, including a 'c-bomb'
- Two scatological swear words

...and to completely miss the point about a fatality. That's a lot he's managed to get out of 140 characters.

No. You can ignore people, block them and/or report them for abuse to Twitter, but you cannot 'ban' them as such. People can freely 'follow' whoever they please.

I agree with LM in this case. Far better to tell us realistically how long the delay is going to be so we can do something else rather than hang around for hours on end whilst the display says theat the train will be five minutes late, then another five minutes and so on.

The suggestion to go to the pub was only a suggestion (and a very sensible one at that).

If this is correct then absolutely a fuss about nothing.....

However, more widely is somewhat more dangerous - a practising Muslim for example might have an issue (just redone Equal Ops and Diversity at work and a similar scenario is included in the training......)

Why would they have an issue with going to the pub? This is England...in England people go to the pub, its part of the culture of this great country. If a practicing Muslim has an issue with that then perhaps they should consider moving to a country that doesnt have pubs and is more in line with their religious beliefs?

Sorry, but its about time that people stopped pandering the the eternally offended and just told them to F off.

I think as a direct answer to a question, it shouldn't be taken seriously as advice or anything else except perhaps by the person whose question is being answered. This is much the same as someone overhearing a customer ask a member of staff "Should I wait in the pub, then?" to which the member of staff may well answer "Perhaps you should" or "That could be a good idea". Only someone who is rather rude, bored or attention seeking (or even all of those) would butt in and criticise the member of staff. Just because it's on Twitter doesn't mean it is more than a conversation overheard in a public place, really.

Now, if LM had been broadcasting a message to all their followers that their service was disrupted and everyone should just go to the pub, that would be inappropriate... but it seems that they weren't specifically doing that.

Ah, waiting in the pub - takes me back to the Alsager Arms. Get seat by window, when level crossing lights flash, down your pint and out to catch your train. (only works if you're travelling eastbound, mind )
