Why is the one pictured numbered 350368, rather than something in the 301-310 series? :s

The LM 350 numbers run through from 1 to 67 as it is now, with 350101-130 being followed by 350231-267; so logically these will be 350368-377

It just means the last two digits are unique which is probably easier for planners and maintainers.

LM have 67 units, 30x 350/1 and 37x 350/2. Presumably they have 350101-350130, 350231-350267 and will add 350368-350377

I have seen 2x 350s on a Crewe to Birmingham service before but that was in early morning and may of been to form a Euston service at Birmingham.

After reading LM's news article, it seems to imply that those units will be running 110mph between Rugby/Northampton and Euston. Does it mean it'll be running BHM-EUS via Weedon?

Is there difference between 350/1 and the new unit, 350/3?

I think the track access application for the 110 mph running strongly implied that the current peak time gaps in the 110 mph services would be filled in when stock became available - the basic point being that paths existed but the stock was doing other things in the peaks. I don't think it's actually been proposed they'll run a 110 mph Euston to Birmingham service, but I guess that could change...

I assumed that the aspiration was for all LM services on the WCML fasts to be operated only by 110mph stock so that all paths were assigned as 125mph tilt or 110mph?

As such, I don't think that any proposals to concentrate the 350/3s on the Birmingham to Liverpool corridor would work: While we won't know exactly what services the 350/3s will be working until all their diagrams are in place from the December 2014 timetable, presumably more 110mph capable units than would be freed up from Birmingham - Liverpool will be required to introduce 8-car working on some Crewe 110 services, and whatever other improvements have been announced (A new morning fast service from Northampton to London, was it?).

There could no doubt be various combinations of juggling the various sub-classes around, but the basic point that 3+2 seating isn't ideal for a 1h45 route between 2 large cities would suggest that moving the /2s to the London commuter services, then using the /1s and /3s on Crewe-London and Birmingham-Liverpool.

It probably means the /3s will be used on the Euston-Crewe services and on the two Northampton-Euston services that cross onto the fasts after Leighton Buzzard.

As far as I can tell they're identical to /1s, but I'm curious to see if the internal layout is any different.

The upholstery will probably be LM green rather than the neutral blue. Do the 350/1 still have the DC pick up shoes?

In the video, might have been my eyes, but there looked to be pickup shoes?

It wasn't just your eyes, it did look a bit like it had shoes. Didn't help that there was a spark or two from the running rail I think as the second car of the first unit passed.

Playing it frame by frame, that's just a reflection of one of the station lights on the rail.

Out of question, why have they been numbered into the 350360 range? Seems odd to add another 60 to the batch unless it clashes with anything else.

LM numbered their subclasses in succession. So their 350s go...
350101-130
350230-267
350368-377

I think the pick up she's we're removed but can be refitted... Is there an expert to correct me?

Last I saw them (albeit quite a while ago) the shoes were cable-tied to their lowering mechanism. They might have been removed, but AFAIK all 350s can have shoes retrofitted.

With the Desiros being a modular design I wouldn't be surprised if they've all (all TOCs) got all the internal wiring in place for 3rd rail and it'd probably just be a case of bolting on the shoes, connecting the shoes to the internal wiring and then maybe a new/replacement panel bit in the cab and a software update

A snapshot of the interior: Not much to see here, but they do have plug sockets. (LMs photo)

I dont think the traction DC looms will have been fitted but otherwise yes...

Would it take them long to fit the DC looms if they're not already installed or would that be a really complicated/long job?

[ot](Well semi off-topic), if SWT were to have a new build of Desiros, because of the new crash structure regs, would they have to have them like the ones used in Scotland?[/ot]

Yes hence the mock up of a Desiro City in SWT colours.

Well more like the class 700s which are being built for Thameslink (Desiro City).

For anyone interested in seeing these 350/3 units, LM currently have 2 x 4 car units in kings Heath depot (Northampton). I have been reliably informed that on Monday they will run as an 8 car from Northampton - Crewe and back and then running again, but only as 4 cars, on Thursday and Friday. Although no routing for the Thursday / Friday run has been mentioned to me.

However, as always, these things are set to change at short notice!

I wish they hadn't gone for that horrid green moquette. Power sockets are good, though. I wonder if they are only at tables? If not they would have another advantage over Virgin.
