Llangelynin halt 1930-1991

This halt is shown on the disused stations website, and it's assumed that the platform still exists. It was reached by a small path, with a gate on it, from a smallholding.

Does the platform still exist, and what about the path down to the halt, with hte gate, is it still there, or totally fenced off?

I would assume gated off, maybe not 100% fenced off, but certainly not open to walk onto. Google SV may be a start.

You want to know the reason it closed? BR were instructed for safety reasons to ensure every station had lighting. The only station deemed to quiet for it to be, well, of any use, is the one we are discussing.

I knew that! Sorry, I did word my post quite badly. Sub Brit (an excellent website for this sort of thing) has a photo of the entrance - a gate in the middle of a waist-high fence.

I don't recall there being any objections to the closure of Llangelynin. Does anyone know if there were any?

Does New Clee still have no lights? I am sure that it is still open and a "request" stop

I dont think Pilning has lights either.

The platform at Llangelynin is just about visible though completly overgrown. You can still clearly see the 'Passengers must not cross the line' sign! There is a footpath by the platform and whistle boards are still in situ for this.

With regard to lighting on platforms. Llandecwyn has no lights to this day but is still operating as a request stop. Not sure if Llanaber has any either.

As an aside. Llangelynin church is the oldest stone built church in Wales and it is that church that you see standing above the old platform.

That is three of us now that have nominated stations without lighting that are still functioning. It is a while since Berney Arrms has come to mind, as it is many years since I travelled on the Reedham to Yarmouth route.

I feel that this could be the basis for a new thread on the NR General Queries forum part of this site.

Depends if they have any night time services. Pilning doesnt so it won't matter, I presume Berney Arms doesnt either.

A curious one this issue. Trains definately stop at Llandecwyn during the hours of darkness. I've been on a service on more than one occasion when it has happened.

Does Tonfanau have lighting? During my stay in Wales, no trains I was on board stopped there yet they all stopped at the next request stop, Llwyngwril!

I'm taking a trip down the coast in the next couple of weeks. I'll post here my findings on all things lighting!

Tonfanau station does have lighting, it even has its own wind turbine to produce electricity becuase of its remote location.

Were there any station usage figures that far back? I can't rememebr ever reading of their existence before privatisation!
