Llandudno Junction - Newport 25 March

Hi all

Hopefully I am posting this in the right place. I'm going to treat the wife to a short break in Llandudno, travelling up from Newport during the week to take advantage of the loco-hauled set, and back on Saturday 25 March. I know the loco-hauled doesn't run at weekends, but if we were to take the 1317 from Llandudno Junction (arrive Newport 1655) on Sat 25 March am I condemned to three and a half hours on a 150?

If so, does anyone know if there are any diagrams for the same journey on the Saturday which generally use a more comfortable class of unit?

That diagram is unfortunately booked a 150 and a 153, but is usually just the single 150 or double 153.

1V95 (0922 off Llandudno Junc) is booked 175/1
1V96 (1123 off Llandudno Junc) is booked a 175/0
1V98 (1517 off Llandudno Junc) can be either 175 or 158
1V99 (1735 off Llandudno Junc) is booked 175/0

Presumably you won't want to come back any earlier than the first option.

Not train related but the troop cafe in the tabernacle does a good cheep brew and has nice staff.

Thanks mate, that’s super helpful. I could stomach 3.5hrs in a 175 but not a 150, so I’ll book one of those you suggest.

Took a trip up from Newport to Llandudno Junction on Friday using the Premier Service. Great food, £20 for three courses, and a seamless journey with friendly staff. Only three tables eating, a shame this service isn't promoted further. It was quite difficult to find info about it. Also a shame it doesn't run at the weekend, the growing leisure market would perhaps make a better target audience than business people. Worth noting that a 2together railcard gives you a substantial discount on the 1st class fare, or you can upgrade your standard class ticket (£20 each way) on board.

I guess they don’t actually promote it as the train is often replaced by a Class 150 or a pair of 153s!
