My school is in the English Schools' FA National Cup Final (not that I'm boasting) but we only won the semi-final yesterday, and the final is on this Wednesday the 24 March 2010 and is in Torquay (nice and central!)

So...travelling to Torquay, early as possible, returning as late as possible without paying £210 please!

Liverpool to Torquay Off-Peak restricion code 8X valid by any train except those timed to depart before 05:00, and that costs £106.20. I'll look at other options still

Journey would be either 05:27 VT to Stafford Arr 06:20 dep 06:25 XC to New St Arr 06:58 dep 07:12 XC to Exeter St D Arr 09:43 dep 09:56 GW to Torquay Arr 10:50 or easier is 06:05 VT to Tamworth Arr 07:14 dep 07:49 XC to Newton Abbot Arr 11:08 dep 11:30 GW to Torquay Arr 11:41 - bonus of the latter is it's booked an HST for the Tamworth-Newton Abbot. Latest you could return is 17:30 GW to Newton Abbot Arr 17:41 dep 18:03 XC to New St Arr 20:52 dep 21:36 LM to Liverpool Arr 23:23. Hope this helps

I'm guessing there are no AP tickets left for your journey, so looking at SORs and SDRs, buy a £28.40 SOR Liverpool - Birmingham (minimum fares with 1625 card would make it uneconomic to split).

I'm not going looking for every split between Birmingham and Torquay, but the cheapest I can find is £34.05 for a SOR, giving a total of £55.30. I'll PM you the details as I don't want to post them on the public forum.

For £65.70 with railcard discounts you can get a Liverpool-Taunton SVR for £56.50, restriction 8X any train after 05:00, then a Taunton-Torquay CDR for £9.20 restriction B3 valid any train after 09:00. Might be easier than splitting everywhere.

When I went to school £28.40+£34.05=£62.45?!?!

£21.25 is the the price of splitting at Crewe and Stafford, which is not available at the times he's travelling due to 1625 Railcard minimum fares.

Liverpool - Crewe = £8.25
Crewe - Stafford = £6.35
Stafford - Birmingham = £6.65

£62.45 would be for a Liverpool - Birmingham and a ticket valid Birmingham - Torquay, for which I've PMd Chris the details.

If you are playing at Plainmoor (Torquay United) Torre station is closer however tickets to either stations will cost the same I imagine.

Otherwise it will be at Torquay Boys Grammar School, in which case same applies, Torre far closer.

Surely however it would be more economical for your school to hire a mini bus!

The school are still unsure as to what they're doing. As it's the sixth form team, most of the spectators can drive, or has a best friend who does.
The team are flying to Plymouth the night before.
