Liverpool to Northampton - returning via Wigan

Here's a good one for you:

Tuesday 18th August - traveling with YP railcard

Liverpool S Pway - Northampton (arriving 1200ish)
Northampton - Wigan N Western (must arrive before 1930)
Wigan N Western - Liverpool S Pway (departing 2200 or later)

The only way I can of doing it is SVR LPY - NMP for £37.90 then CDR WBQ - WGN for £3.10. I think the first ticket would be valid to WBQ for a foot connection to WAC.

There is a saver Liverpool South Parkway to Northampton route Long Buckby priced at £31.70.
Wigan sadly isn't on any valid routes for this ticket, so I think you're right, you would need a day return from Warrington-Wigan as well as your Northampton ticket.

No, its north of Northampton, after rugby if you're going South

I can get a LM only from Crewe to Northampton for £13.20 (CDR)
Reckon I then get a Liverpool S P to Warrington Stns for £3.15
then Wigan Stns - Crewe for £8.60?

You wouldn't have any ticket left to get you back from Wigan to Warrington though. You would use as follows:
Liverpool SP-Warrington Out
Wigan-Crewe Out (Starting late at Warrington)
Crewe-Northampton Out & Return
Wigan-Crewe Rtn
Wigan-Warrington No ticket (Day single would cost £2.65)
Liverpool SP-Warrington Rtn.
