Liverpool to Doncaster

Hi,

Hope someone can give me a bit of advice here please.

I am going to Doncaster on 3/310 for private driver assessment. I was hoping to go by train from Liverpool ( i live on the wirral) however it looks like a 3hour journey so might be better to go by car . Anyone got any infoor ideas i would be grateful.

A basic return between Lime Street and Doncaster is £33, with basic journey times of around 2h20m. I know it doesn't help much, but it's a start. I'm sure that someone like Yorkie could give a better answer than this.

Ok thanks Ivo . Yes thats a start and a bit better than the 3 hours i thought it would take. Who is that with by the way , Northern i presume.

Well assuming you can go after 0930,

Liverpool-Manchester £9.90
Manchester-Doncaster route Sheffield £16.30

Gets you down to £26.20 return (not departing before 0930 though).

However, the £33 return allows you travel via either Leeds or Sheffield and allows travel at any time.

I would get an EMT service to Sheffield, then probably a CrossCountry service to Doncaster. Valid with split tickets.

Ok thanks first class . I have to be in Doncaster by 08.30 unless i go the night before but might get a bit expensive . Looks like the car might be the best option.

You can get advance singles, if you book in advance and travel only on the booked train. On the 3 March, there is a £13.50 single on the 06:16, changing at Sheffield and arriving at Doncaster at 08:40. Coming back, these tickets are available at £9.50 on a wide variety of services, making £23 return. The one drawback is you have around an hour in Manchester on the return.
To book these, if using the website www.eastcoast.co.uk put in the dates and times as usual, search, then on the left of the page click show slowers routes, then tick the two Transpennine only options and then update.
