Got a friend going back to Norwich tonight from Liverpool Street and he's on an Advance ticket 19:30 to Norwich (Abellio Greater Anglia). With all the disruption currently due to signalling affecting Norwich and Cambridge services I've checked the National Rail site for Advice.

"Passengers can use First Capital Connect services between London Kings Cross and Ely; East Midlands Trains services between Norwich and Peterborough and London Underground via any reasonable routes."

He's thinking of going to Kings Cross instead and get First Capital Connect to Cambridge but would he be able to pre-empt his Liverpool Street train being cancelled or does he actually have to wait for his train to be cancelled before he can using his ticket on an alternative route?

Mods - can you delete original post in the Rail Discussion Forum as think it needs to be here instead.

Greater Anglia say you can use Advance tickets 60 minutes either side of your booked train tonight.
