Liverpool - Stratford (for the Olympics)

I've managed to bag last-minute Olympics tickets for Saturday afternoon (11 August), so am now in the processing of planning travel arrangements.

There are two of us travelling, and we both have railcards. We plan to leave in the morning, and come back in the evening.

With uncertainty about crowd and queue sizes, I thought flexible tickets would be best?


This is what I had in mind per person:

- Liverpool Stns to London Terminals Off-Peak Return: £49.00

- Arrive at Euston and walk to St Pancras

- London Terminals to Stratford International Anytime Day Single: £3.75

- Collect Games Travelcards at the Olympic Park.

- Use Travelcards to get back to Euston for the return journey.


We don't mind travelling by London Midland with cheaper tickets, but it appears that the last LM train back leaves too early as we're not really expecting to leave Stratford until around 6pm.

I had a look at http://nationalrailgamestravel.co.uk but it seems the £1.20 saving is not really worth it for the lack of flexibility that accompanies it.


Just wondering if anyone has any alternative ticketing or routeing suggestions which I may have missed, or any other thoughts.

Not much to add to that really other than to avoid the busy Euston Road and instead take Phoenix Road/Brill Place, it's shorter too (Google maps). Also I'd buy to Kensington Olympia rather than London Terminals (not that it really benefits you much in this case).

The walk from Euston to St Pancras avoiding Euston Road (via Platform 1 at Euston) is currently signposted with pink signs.

Thanks for the tip - have always just gone along Euston Road in the past, not realising there was a shorter and quieter alternative.

What is the advantage of buying a ticket to Kensington Olympia instead?

It's 10p cheaper than a ticket to London Euston

I'm sure I searched for this earlier and found it to be a lot more expensive - must have forgotten to add the railcard discount!

We're actually travelling from the Wirral, so are willing to travel via Chester as well depending on times.

Having looked at the Routeing Guide, am I right in thinking this is valid with a ticket from Liverpool (maps ML+LC) and that we can also start late/end short due to Break of Journey being permitted, or are there any restrictions or easements preventing this?
