Are all the daytime London Liv St to Cambridge trains worked by 317s? Looked on RTT and some say 317 others just say EMU 100mph

Occasionally in the past I have done the journey on a 379. Can't recall seeing one at Cambridge the last few times I've been there.

The 0647 / 0717 / 0747 ex Cambridge and 1707 / 1737 / 1807 ex LivSt are 12 car 379s

They also work various other services. I think the diagrams are as below.

The background to use of 379s to Cambridge I think that when they were ordered in 2008 it was expected that Stansted Express would all run as 12 cars all day, which is 9 diagrams, 27 units total. In reality the recession came and demand to Stansted no longer justified 12 cars all day. So 9 units are used on Cambridge services.

Personally I think it is a shame these nice units are underutilised - one 12 car set sees no use between the peaks - while many services are still operated by 317s.

Don't get misled by RTT. It doesn't say they're worked by 317s. It says they're TIMED as 317s which means that anything that can attain 317 max speed could actually work it.

I seem to remember being told somewhere-or-other a while back that there are no specific weekend Cambridge-London diagrams that are allocated to be 379s, just that some are and some are not and it differs each time. Is that (still) the case?

If I'm not in a rush on my weekend trips to London, I rather like to pick up a 379, not least to use the free wifi - it would be nice to plan ahead to some degree. (Not for the rest of this month though, given the line is shut every weekend in January!) But so far I haven't seen any obvious patterns.

They would be DIAGRAMMED to something or other, i.e. 379. What you probably mean is that anything might be ALLOCATED on the day.

The 12 car that goes to Orient Way off peak Is specifically for heavy cleaning. With the very high mileage the fleet does they would soon be in a right state without it.

There are (and always have been) specific weekend diagrams for 379s. However for football at Spurs the diagrams are altered to provide longer trains so some trains that would normally be worked by 379s become 317s and vv.

9 x 379's are diagramed to work CBG-LST's on Saturdays and 6 on Sundays.
Lots of 379's are not used on Saturdays as the Stanstead's are booked to be 4 cars.
