Liverpool South Parkway???

Hi,
Yesterday I bought a return ticket from South Parkway to Manchester Stns. All was fine. On the return journey I decided I would like to get off at Lime Street instead. I had already checked the price of a return from Lime Street to Manchester and it is the same as South Parkway to Manchester. I asked the Conductor, and he said I could. I ended up getting off at Parkway because I wasn't prepared to be "collared" by the inspectors at Lime Street. Was I officially allowed to go further evn though it was the same price.

You would've had to have acquired what is called a "zero excess" (a change of destination on your ticket that costs nothing) to be able to travel (assuming this easement does not apply).

There is this easement:

30186 Customers travelling via Liverpool South Parkway may doubleback via Liverpool Lime Street. This easement applies in both directions.

However, I don't think it applies since it is for passengers travelling via Liverpool South Parkway and not to it.

Shouldn't be an issue, especially if the guard has said it is fine. Remember that the guard will be in Liverpool for at least ten minutes on a break should anyone on the gate try say otherwise.

The barrier staff at Liverpool are generally very very good and easygoing, mostly old hands whove all been on over ten years. I've not seen the RPOs from Northern Rail down there much, and even then most of their people are fairly sensible.

I used to have a Ashford International (AFK) to Hastings (HGS) monthly season ticket. It cost the same as an AFK to St. Leonards Warrior Square (SLQ) monthly. Revenue Protection were happy for me to travel through to SLQ. Out of respect I told the conductor each time I intended to do it however.

I don't believe the easement quoted applies because the ticket was for travel to South Parkway, not via. Also, if the guard didn't give you a zero-fare excess for the ticket, the barrier staff could've asked for an over-distance excess (a single from South Parkway to Lime Street) if your origin station had an open ticket office (infact this is what the manual says the guard should do).
