Seems there's major problems at Lime Street this morning due to overrunning engineering works:

Overrunning engineering work at Liverpool Lime Street is delaying journeys to and from the station by up to 60 minutes. In addition, the following changes apply:

East Midlands Trains services which usually run between Norwich and Liverpool Lime Street are only running between Norwich and Manchester Oxford Road.

First TransPennine Express services which usually run between Manchester and Liverpool Lime Street will only run between Manchester and Warrington Central.

London Midland services are suspended between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street.

Alternative travel options

East Midlands Trains passengers may use alternative services running between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street

First TransPennine Express passengers may use alternative services running between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street

London Midland passengers may use Merseyrail and Northern Rail services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street

Added to the above, there also appear to be some issues on the Wirral Line this morning? Trains around the loop were cancelled at around 07:30 today & the cross river buses are rammed! :eek:

More information here;

http://http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/73129.aspx

A signalling problem at James Streeet means trains are unable to run between Birkenhead North / Birkenhead Central and James Street.

Yeah, there were some serious problems this morning, I ended up driving my wife (who commutes Warrington Central to Birkenhead Hamilton Square) from Warrington to Hooton (originally went to Ellesmere to find the train cancelled) before I headed into work.

More or less back to normal now. South Parkway was a bit frantic this morning,

Yes I knew right away there was disruption on the Wirral Line this morning when a large number of people boarded my usual Liverpool-bound bus opposite Birkenhead Central station at around 07:20.

Also I could see numerous people waiting right outside the station (where the rail replacement buses usually stop).

I think people are faced with the usual decisions - to cross over the road for a regular bus, or wait for the possibility of a rail replacement bus or perhaps wait until the trains are moving again?

It was also covered in the Liverpool Echo:-

I was also caught up with a slight delay returning from Cressington around Monday lunchtime, due to a track trespass incident, when the electricity was temporarily turned off on the Hunts Cross line. Fortunately trains started running again after a mere wait of 25 minutes.
