Hi,

I'm travelling to London next week. I'll need to be on the 0527 from Liverpool, and I'm unsure about a return, but it may well be on the 1607 (which is peak)

I have a PRIV as well as a 16-25 card. I usually use rovers and things, but due to the early depart time, I can't see any which are valid.

The cheapest I can find is £46ish, which is just a SVR using my YNG card.

Any help greatly received!

Yes, it is cheaper with a Railcard for this journey, given that VT allow Railcard holders holding an Off Peak ticket to travel at any time, and the SOR is horrendously expensive.

For alternative options involving LM, see the recent Liverpool-Watford thread, it'll be similar to London.

But if the arrival time of the 0527 from Liverpool is critical, then this isn't an option.

All I can suggest is looking up where the train stops and see if it's cheaper to split, but bear in mind you will have to stop at the same stations coming back, thus extending your return journey, perhaps considerably!

The 0527 calls at RUN, CRE, STA, RUG, MKC and finally EUS. All I can suggest is putting these places into booking engines to see if you can reduce the cost, and then deciding if the extended journey time for the way back is worth it. The 1607 only calls at STA and RUN, so splitting anywhere else will extend your journey.

I don't know if priv is valid on 'Virgin only' tickets; if so then I think splitting at Stafford does save some money.

In NFM 09 priv does not seem to be allowed with Route VT Only tickets.

You can get it down to about £40 by splitting at stafford. By the looks of it Priv is available Liverpool to Stafford Route VT ONLY, and then using you 16-25 railcard Stafford - Euston.
