Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether this combination of tickets is valid for a quick there and back to London Euston please? (Priv)

1548 LIV-EUS, calling at Runcorn & Stafford .
2107 EUS-LIV, calling at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe & Runcorn

Liverpool-Crewe SOR £3.60
West Midlands Day Ranger £4.05
Rugby-Euston SOR £25.75

Total cost: £33.40

I know about the questions regarding the ranger on Virgin, but that aside, although the train does not stop at Crewe or Rugby, as it is a 'leisure pass' does that mean my train doesn't have to stop there to be able to combine tickets?

If anyone else can suggest any cheaper ways of getting there on those exact trains tomorrow, (splitting etc), then it would be much appreciated!

I don't think the Day Ranger can qualify as a leisure pass:

19. Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover
the entire journey and one of the following applies:
(a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
(b) the train you are in calls at the station where you change from one ticket to
another; or
(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season
Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or
local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

...

For the purposes of this Condition, a “leisure travel pass” means any multi-journey
ticket (excluding Season Tickets) valid for:
(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or
(ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days
and includes rover tickets, travel passes, flexipass tickets and BritRail passes.

Here's a very split option that's a bit cheaper than a LIV-EUS open return for you:

Liverpool - Runcorn SDR £1.70

Runcorn - Stafford SOS £5.55
Stafford - Euston SOS £20.50

Euston - Milton Keynes SDS £5.70
Milton Keynes - Nuneaton SOS £5.90
Nuneaton - Crewe SOS £5.15
Crewe - Runcorn SDS £1.75

For a total of £45.75, £12 cheaper than a regular SOR. You may get there and back cheaper if you could change the outward train to something that calls at Milton Keynes.
