Out Sat 16/4

Yes I can get to Birmingham New St for £9.

As an added complexity I will be getting a Freedom of Devon & Cornwall 8 in 15 day rover. There is no way I'll use 8 journeys so I am quite prepared to use 1 from Tiverton Parkway to Liskeard.

I will be spending a few nights in Liskeard and then back to Exeter probably using the rover.

Returning from Exeter to Liverpool on Wed 27/4 ( no rover option ).

It would seem child's play to get from Birmingham New St to Tiverton Parkway cheaply but .....

These are just my ideas, if you have any alternatives please feel free. Would want to go a fairly straightforward route as it's quite a journey as it is.

Can you help please ?

Changing at Bristol Temple Meads would be cheapest (except for two trains from Brum at 9:42 and 13:42 - perhaps this would be better depending on when you arrive in Brum)

BHM - BRI (XC)
11:42 - 13:07
£18 Advance

BRI - TVP (XC)
13:44 - 14:28
£15 Advance

Total = £33 (1 adult, 0 railcards, 0 children)

Despite both being XC you can't split since all the cheap trains from BHM-BRI terminate at BRI :(
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

For the return journey it's cheapest to go direct from EXD to BHM - Advance tickets are available off-peak for £30 throughout the morning at the moment. BHM-LIV is £9 advance

BHM = Birmingham New Street
BRI = Bristol Temple Meads
TVP = Tiverton Parkway
LIV = Liverpool Lime Street
XC = Cross Country

Instead of getting a Freedom of Devon & Cornwall gt a freedom of the south west - it is only £35 (£95 instead of £60) more for a 8in15 and covers you from Worcester/Cheltenham down and also gives you a greater area to explore.

Thanks for the replies.

I think i'll go for the Freedom of South West idea. Although more expensive I'd only need to buy singles from Birmingham New St to Chelenham Spa & back, rather than the more expensive Tiverton Parkway so it actually works out cheaper.

I will have to use 2 of my 8 journeys getting from Cheltenham Spa to where I'm going & back, but that's what it's there for. Might not use the rover to get back from Liskeard to Exeter, but just buy a signle. The additional flexibility of what I can do from Exeter is probably more valuable
