Liverpool Lime Street to Morecambe

Is Liverpool lime street to Morecambe via Crewe an allowed journey for an off peak day return? I was thinking of catching 0904 lime street to Crewe then 1009 from Crewe to Preston and finally the 1108 to Morecambe.

It would be easier to go to Sandhills then get the train to Ormskirk and change for a train to Preston then up to Morecambe.

It is indeed permitted via Crewe.

It would be easier to go to Sandhills then get the train to Ormskirk and change for a train to Preston then up to Morecambe.

According to NR the Sandhills train leaves at 0903 and connects with the same 1108 at Preston. So not really easier, both routes require two changes.

It would be quickest to go Lime St-Preston (via Wigan)-Morecambe on the 0928 but that puts you on a couple of 156s (if you are lucky).
