Liverpool- Glasgow TPE

Anybody know what’s happened to these planned direct services? All seems to have gone very quiet.

They run, twice a day. There was never an expectation they would be that much more frequent, as there were effectively only two of the 397s procured for them. Possibly expected to run every four hours, than every eight hours though.

As @JonathanH has pointed out, aren't there currently a couple of TPE services from Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central (via Carlisle) in the timetable, each weekday, departures at 0812 and 1612. And one return working from Glasgow Central, at just after midday.

One of the problems with long distance trains out of Glasgow in my experience is that they don't load consistently. You can have it extremely busy one day and practically empty another.

The morning train leaves Preston four minutes after an Avanti service from Birmingham.

Yes, hit or miss. You don't have the tourist hoards on the Glasgow services unlike Edinburgh

I have taken the Liverpool to Glasgow afternoon service and its been busy.

Yes, the Glasgow - Liverpool services do get cancelled often.

There was a 0745 Glasgow to Liverpool service too, not seen that since before Covid.

That terminates at Preston now and then forms the 12:03 to Glasgow.

The mid day departure from Liverpool hasn't returned post COVID and the evening departure to Oxenholme has similarly never reappeared. All journeys now call at St Helens Central vice Lea Green too.

Not quite "almost always", but reliability of the 1612 TPE service in June certainly seems to have been decidedly sub-optimal.

Depending on the time you need to be in Liverpool there is a direct service starting from Lancaster at 06:43 which arrives in Liverpool at 07:55.

It’s been very reliable recently may be due to the rest day working agreement
