Hi,

There is another thread on the closure and refurbishment of Liverpool Central, generally.

It's here:-
http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=64045

Perhaps the threads could be merged so that all info on this topic is in the same place?

I haven't used the station yet since the re-opening, but I did happen to travel on a train calling at the Wirral Line platform yesterday.

I managed to get these quick snaps through the train window:-

As can be seen, the station signs still need to be fitted over the strip-lights.

Other than that, from what I briefly saw, it looked very clean, bright, almost clinical perhaps, but undoubtedly an improvement on the previous decor, which for some time had looked very dated, IMHO.

I was also on a train passing through the Northern line platforms yesterday - it still looks like it's all to be done there - i.e. not a great deal of cosmetic difference from when it closed back in April.

I'm intending to use the station later today, so hopefully will get more of a feel for what it's actually like now. Cheers!

There are two parts to the work

Changes at street level and changes to the escalator shafts and platform.

At street level the concourse has been rebuilt with a glass roofed area on the Bold St side of the concourse which is not open yet. The shop/ticket office has been rebuilt with the ticket selling positions moved etc. The ticket barriers have been split with entry in the old position and the exit gates moved towards Ranelagh St by 6/7 yards.

The escalator shafts and platform have been re-skinned with white panels replacing the old ones so it is brighter bit the fit and finish looked very poor to me yesterday. The passageways have been retiled and the floors replaced with stone tiles replacing the rubber tiles.

The work isn't finished with no fittings for timetables and adverts and as mentioned the lighting panels not fitted out on the platform.

But the station had to be open this weekend so no waiting around for details to be sorted.

Hopefully I'll be going to Central on Monday, see for myself. There's still not an awful lot online about it.

Here's some nice photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomasharrison/7880712960/in/photostream/
