Live debate

I very much enjoy this website and multiple topics discussed. I do sometimes see threads end up wondering down a different path by debates created from the original topic of discussion but that is understandable.

What I've often thought is how would a live debate go? There are plenty of people within the rail industry in many different roles on this website and if we could get a few to perhaps spare their time and knowledge we could have a live q&a session and debate a whole host of railway topics

Hire a small hall, sell tickets for a small fee to cover costs and any monies over could even be donated to charity.

this website has a lot of people who aren't on the railway and this would be a chance for them to speak face to face and to take part and contribute to live q&a with those that do work within the industry.

Could work similar to those political debates we see on the tele, although hopefully with a lot less bickering and more sense being made!!!

Good idea. Now all we need is someone who lives in Colchester to organize it. Erm.... .

Would be a good idea although I think that Birmingham or somewhere in the Midlands would be the best place to hold it. Maybe have someone from A Union, Railway Company management, passenger focus and someone from the Department for Transport.

Would be good to have some questions that pop up on here such as "Are Pacers unsafe and why do Northern Rail keep running them?", "How will HS2 help someone who lives in Harrogate?" and "How is it fair that I get charged a penalty if I am caught travelling without a valid ticket?".

No. As we have many Scottish members it should be held somewhere pretty much halfway from north to south.

I like the idea of Redcar we could hold it in the grounds of the Teesside Steel works by Redcar British Steel Station and one of the questions could be one that pops up quite a bit "should stations like this be kept open and/or should more trains be stopping here?"

Do 3, one at Redcar, one at Denton and one at Polesworth with Michael Portillo moderating the debates. Make it interesting by giving him a copy of the Bradshaws guide and also by putting the debates over 3 consecutive nights (one on BBC, one on ITV and one on Sky)
