Not sure if this is the right section, but its certainly a usful tool for those of us that travel abroad a lot. I`m not great with technology and have recently had a week in Kiev and struggled trying to translate station names and book tickets in countries that use different alfabets. I`ve only just been made aware that this technology exists and wounder could someone advise me of any apps that I can download to my smart phone, so that I can scan station, street signs live and convert them into English?

S Yorks, usually
No problem. Mine made a fair job of recognising some Japanese off my computer screen at a slightly funny angle, and then translating it to roughly the right English. Not that I speak Japanese, but I already had a translation of the original to compare to the google result.
Keep your wits about you though, as I've known google translate come back with nonsense, or even worse, the opposite meaning to the original. As with all translations, context is everything, and longer phrases give it more context.

Yes of course, I dont want to do a Benny Hill, (learning all the time), so funny if you`ve seen the clip, lol
