Litter on the Atherton Line

First trip over the Atherton Line in daylight for a while and I can't believe how much litter there now is along this line. Once past Salford Crescent there is fly tipping all the way. Never seen it so bad, do Network Rail ever do anything about it ?

There is lots of litter everywhere currently, mainly due to high winds rather than anything else. Railway lines are often in depressions in the land where all the rubbish collects. It was bin day here yesterday and it is now a scene of carnage as wheelie bins were all over the place, with their contents spilling out everywhere.

In my opinion, fly-tipped waste should be put in the back of a lorry to be left on the property of whoever put it there. I suppose the difficulty is working out who that would be though.

The suggestion appears to be that it just appeared overnight, in one go. Possible I suppose. I'd be interested to know whether or not that's what happened, though.

In my opinion, fly-tipped waste should be put in the back of a lorry to be left on the property of whoever put it there. I suppose the difficulty is working out who that would be though.

If they know who it was then they can prosecute them as it is a criminal offence. That does happen. The problem is knowing who it was - fly tippers are not stupid, and mostly have the sense to remove things with a name and address from the rubbish before dumping it.

Although, as in my previous area, the fly tippers were simply traced through a visit to the client, I knew of a particularly stupid builder/fly tipper who dumped asbestos in a layby along with packaging addressed to his clients .....
