I hope you don't mind my asking, but I'm off to Lithuania for a short break in December, based in Vilnius. Their railway's website is fine for working out times, but I just have one or two questions for anyone who has visited before:
1) I gather a small proportion of the network is electrified - which bit is this?
2) The timetables seem to indicate that all trains are either 2nd or 3rd class - what's the difference and is there no 1st class? (not that I might use it!)
3) On longer distance trains, for example Vilnius-Klaipeda, are the carriages open or in compartments?
and
4) Are reservations and ticket validations necessary?
Hoping to gain some answers from the experts out there!
