Recently passed through Wimbledon station and it looks like there’s now a siding/headshint past the end of the ‘new’ platform
This lead me to wondering if anyone knew how many other sidings/refuges there are (and if there’s any stock transfer points/interfaces with NR)

There is also a siding at Elmers End, I believe it will be used in passenger service when a second platform is built, although news about construction of the second platform has gone very quiet.

Why would Elmers End ever need a second platform without frequency increases?

It was planned but currently hasn’t been constructed. IMG_3588.jpeg

Description of image : "Double tracking of the branch line and a second platform at Elmers End tram station will provide additional facilities to enable service improvements and address reliability issues on the network.

The overrun at Wimbledon isn’t new - it dates from the opening of 10B in 2015.

There is also a ‘cripple siding’ for stabling a disabled tram on the approach to Wimbledon, facing towards Croydon.

A cripple siding previously existed at Elmers End when the system first opened, but this was subsumed into the passing loop as part of the capacity enhancements in - off the top of my head - 2015 also. There are no physical connections to the mainline, and never have been.

The additional platform at Elmers End was essentially a casualty of Covid, but it is debatable as to how much of a business case ever existed for it without additional trams.
