Lisbon ticket query

Heading out to Lisbon next week. I understand that there's a 24 hour ticket available which is valid on the Metro and the trams.

1. If I buy the 24-hour ticket at 1800 on Monday does it last until 1800 on Tuesday or until end of service?

2. Do I need to have a smartcard to load this on and if so, can I get both the smartcard and the 24-hour ticket at the Aeroporto Metro stop?

Yes, you need to buy a re-chargeable 'Via Viagem' card. It is easy enough to get one from the ticket machines in the Metro station at the airport. There were no staff around to assist when I was there but look for a small 'union jack' button on the touchscreen and the instructions will appear in English. You can load it with a 24 hour pass which will carry over to the following day e.g. 17.00 Day 1 to 17.00 on Day 2.

One more tip for Lisbon airport Metro
We ignored the queues for the machines as they were very busy as we found there is a "locals only " machine to the left of the barriers hidden out of sight around the corner which was empty.
