A fire near the railway suspected to involve gas cylinders at Grantham is causing disruption to services at this station. Trains may be diverted or delayed by up to 30 minutes and this is expected to continue until approximately 20:45.

I believe the ECML is currently blocked because of the fire. Not an ideal time!

Would the substation feed the local section of the ECML or is the ECML on a separate feed? Presumably the overhead will have been switched off anyway for the safety of firefighters

The GSP for that section is North of Grantham between Great Gonerby and Belton.

Various VTEC and HT services ran via the GNGE where route knowledge allowed. Shows how useful the upgrade of that line has been for short notice diversions.

I live locally (ish) - the substation in question is A: Rather large & B: Right beside & below the tracks at the bottom of the embankment. Location here https://goo.gl/maps/D9aiY7ZQNiT2.

One of the more major transformers appears to have gone snap, crackle & pop. I did suggest on Twitter to the VTEC boys & girls that next years WPD (Local Power Distro Company) fireworks show might be held at a better location & in November!!

I was on the 1800 Edinburgh train from Kings Cross which was an HST set, no announcements prior to boarding at 1745, but shortly before 1800 an on train announcement to say we would be held due to congestion because of a fire near Grantham. Big influx of passengers at about 1830, most of whom got off at Peterborough, an unscheduled stop.

Left about 40 late, was going to go via Lincoln, in the event that didn't happen. After additional stops at Peterborough, Newark and Doncaster I left the train 100 late at Darlington. The 1900 ex London was about 5 minutes behind the 1800.

On train was not handled well by the Guard, who despite the obvious problem of missed last connections for people travelling on north from Newcastle or Edinburgh, did not come through the train until after leaving York, and even then much of the advice was just to see the station staff at Edinburgh on arrival. No advice of compensation arrangements at all.

The sub station was still clearly burning as we passed at low speed, although not as much as in the pic above.

Having missed my last connection, the staff at Darlington provided a taxi so I eventually reached home 2 hours late, but at least I got there unlike those poor souls in Brussels!
