Been a "fun" weekend for those travelling between Ipswich & Cambridge/Peterborough - after the old railway station at Higham caught fire just before 6am on Saturday morning with fears that the building may collapse onto the line, causing a shutdown for nearly all of the weekend. 18 fire engines from across Suffolk & Cambridgeshire have been at work on the incident.

Line reopened just after 5pm, but now notice 2A92 Cambridge-Bury St Edmunds is now cancelled from Kennett due to an operational incident.

Buses in between Bury St Edmunds & Ely/Cambridge today with units a drivers all over the place. Add in planned engineering between Ipswich/Norwich & Bury St Edmunds, and it's been a bit of a problematic weekend for all travelling in the area. Saw a freight train in Ely Goods Loop around 11am which I could only imagine has been abandoned, waiting for the line to reopen. Had to laugh that the 2 GA guys on my replacement bus back to Bury St Edmunds at lunchtime had no idea what was really going on or what they'd be doing next.A severely-damaged Victorian railway goods shed, which was wrecked in a fierce blaze yesterday, has now been demolished due to a risk it would have collapsed onto a busy railway line.
Sixty firefighters tackled the fire at the former railway station at Higham in west Suffolk.
They managed to save surrounding buildings but the goods shed was left a charred shell and at risk of collapse – possibly onto the rail line. A structural engineer was called in to make a technical assessment.
Train services were cancelled between Ipswich and Cambridge/Peterbororough while the fire crews deal with the incident because it was too dangerous for the trains to pass.
Firefighters had to work on the line and old platform in order to put out the fire....
