At Huddersfield waiting for my delayed Wakefield Westgate service to depart, there's just been an announcement that the 1250 Bradford Interchange and beyond service has been cancelled due to a lineside fire at Brighouse. Potential for major disruption as units and crews end up in the wrong places. No explanation as to why my Wakey service is delayed but we've just been turfed out and told to board the front train on 4a, which appears to be 155343.

Update. On the way to Wakefield now, the guard just gave a very informative but concise explanation for the messing around at Huddersfield - good to hear. Apparently the fire is/was a factory in the Greetland area.

The service that runs from huddersfield to wakefield actually comes from selby, thru Leeds bradford and halifax, then passes greetland junction to brighouse and into huddersfield that way. For the purposes of directing people to the quickest trains its never advertised as a through train on the departure boards, but is obviously shown from the intermediate stops, on the train displays and in timetables. From huddersfield it will show as a service to New Pudsey (or Bramley) while from Leeds departure boards will display Brighouse. Similarly harrogate services from York are listed as Burley Park as opposed to Leeds and likewise from Leeds to Knaresborough or Poppleton and not York. This then directs people travelling to huddersfield, leeds or york to the faster and more direct trains.

That used to be the case, but hasn't been since the May 2014 timetable change. The service from Selby now terminates at Huddersfield, then goes back to Leeds via Brighouse. The Huddersfield - Wakefield is now a standalone service

That's right, though I think the Grand Tour still runs on Saturday. What I think happened at Huddersfield today was that the incoming Selby was stuck the wrong side of the incident, which also held up that hour's Leeds to Victoria via Brighouse, which was instead diverted to Huddersfield. This then formed the Wakefield service, though I'm not sure why that was necessary to be honest. Led to the unusual situation of three separate units on platform 4: a 142 on 4B, a 3-car 144 in the middle, and the 155. Got some good thrash on the 155 on the Heaton Lodge dive-under though! :D When I got to Mirfield I did see one of the fire appliances returning, presumably from the Greetland fire.

That's truly amazing, bearing in mind the amount of rain which has descended recently.
