Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge, and perhaps even further towards Huddersfield? (Obviously excluding the Victoria end).

I think the lines through Canterbury and through Maidstone West have a certain amount of ... inherited infrastructure.

They do, but I'm sure the box at Canterbury East is certainly going soon (if not already), through the East Kent resignalling. As far as I know, the lines through West and Sturry are still traditional boxes.

Certainly the Lincoln to Nottingham line does for most of the route - except around Lincoln and Nottingham. The same can be said for most routes in Lincolnshire as far as I'm aware.

Stockport-Chester. Although the Mouldsworth signal box was removed when the Mickel Trafford signal box was renewed and took over the Mouldsworth operations.

Did anyone notice, buried in the later pages of the full McNulty report, his proposed list of large regional signalling centres (on page 268)?

Existing: Derby, Gillingham, Cardiff, Saltley, Edinburgh, Ashford, Didcot, Glasgow.

Proposed: Romford, Three Bridges, York, Manchester, Rugby, Basingstoke.

and that's it.

I'm surprised he thinks they need two for Kent...

Dundee-Aberdeen and one at Leuchars. The big stations are all coloured-lights, and is Montrose now, but the wayside stations and some intermediate boxes retain semaphores, with North British posts south of Montrose and Caley posts north of there. Stonehaven reminds me of what stations like Lockerbie must have been like once, both in frequency of service and operations. It's a main line in a timewarp.

Montrose is colour light at the south end and Semaphore at the north end. Controlled by Montrose North box as Montrose south was switched out sometime last year i think. You can also leave from the southbound platform at Montrose heading north controlled by a new semaphore signal about 100yds off the platform.
