Think your question needs to be more specific...

But for starters.

I'm sure that 47s and 67s are "banned" from Crianlarich to Oban.

67's are banned from the cambrian and can't do more than 110mph in normal service.

I suspect it's a good few years since a loco visited the Stourbridge Town branch

In my days on BR there was a thick booklet titled "Locomotive Route Availability and Restrictions" listing every diesel locomotive class matched against every section of line. That was just the Southern Region.....!

This is now published in the sectional appendix for each territory and includes loco's, emu's, dmu's and coaching Stock.

According to local legend, HST's are barred from using the Balcombe Tunnel on the Brighton Mainline - not sure why but apparantly they are.

171's can only use certain platforms at Victoria.

377's cannot turn left at Hurst Green (on the down) unless they get a really good run up

Unsure why HSTs would go onto the BML in the first place. Dont believe 171's have gone to Victoria as the ventilation shafts for the diesel fumes are in a different place to the thumpers, which then lead to the Uckfield service being moved to LBG. And a 377 cant turn left at Hurst Green, mainly as the line towards Uckfield isnt electrified.

91+mk4+dvt sets were until recently banned from the Airdale line due to insuffitiant power however they no longer are so I pressume the power has been turned up.

I think he was being sarcastic i.e good run up. It would struggle back though :)

Cross Country presumably. Although the Brightons were always LHCS if there hadn't been a ban on HSTs they wcould have turned up occasionally due to disruption/substitution.

171's can use the Southeatern side of Victoria, but are barred from certain platforms due to ventilation issues.

Pacers are banned south of Coulsdon due to the nasty noises they make. It plays havoc with the dental work we got done in Poland at that nice dentist our au-pair recommended to us

Think the OP needs to be more specific. The thread could go on for hundreds of pages otherwise!

A pair went to Pwllheli earlier this year!

I think I have seen something about this before and that the 67's are a higher RA than the line, so they can only go on the line given special dispensation (can't remember the technical term)

Obviously now they would have to also be fitted with ERTMS before being allowed on there too

Off topic but when was the cambrian fitted with retb was it? I saw a picture of a hybrid class 150 at towyn on a machcellynth service in about 1990 and central ran 156's on it i believe.

I think it was the late 80s. 150s and 156s carried the mounting brackets and plugs for RETB (some still do) and it's possible they carried portable sets.

Wigan to Southport is prohibited to loco hauled trains.

Why are loco hauled trains banned from Wigan to Southport, knowing that in the 1990s Class 31s & 37s were regular visitors?

Also, why are Class 40s banned from the former Southern Region, when the likes of 40122 visited on Railtours?

IIRC the 31s and 37s have low axle-loads (for an engine) and are pretty light for six-axle locos; as for class 40s they have a relatively low axle load but that relies on the 'pony' trucks as they weigh something like 135 tonnes in a small amount of rail-space, so the former SR might not like them so much.

I do believe that running any diesel or steam loco (and possibly even some DMUs?) into Stansted Airport is banned due to ventilation issues and an overly sensitive fire alarm.

I also heard a couple of years ago that 37s were banned from running the Caledonian Sleeper on the West Highland Line in places due to curve gauging issues and had to be replaced with 67s...or is it the other way around?

Other way around............37's have (for a main line loco) a good RA. 158's are banned from a number of lines in Scotland (including the WH).

And Pacers are pretty much banned totally from Scotland :D

Certain platforms at Stansted cannot take diesel locos due to the proximity of the fire alarms. This theory has been tested a few times after a 31 has run in on a test train, with hilarious results. IIRC, there's one road that a diesel can run into without setting off the fire alarms.

The above reason is why the extremely rare sight of 86101 and 87002 once top and tailed a radio survey train.

I seem to recall reading that Voyagers are banned from Stansted due to the ventilation issues - only 170s are allowed that far

56s are banned North of Cardiff Queen St I think, although a few years ago, a grid was called from Canton for loco hauled duty at Ryhmney even though of this restriction, also I believe 97301 missed out the Cwmbargoed branch during its testing of the Valleys the other month with the mentor coach & dbso i think, even though 37s used to run out of there regularly back in the day, and a few weeks before a 66 charter ran up there with a nice rake of mk1s! must have been the DBSO..

158's are banned from the west highland because they have no retb system. Did scotrail not get allocated some pacers but swapped them with 158's instead?

No - are they not banned for clearance reasons? It's certainly not anything to do with RETB - how would they work north of Inverness?

Pacers are banned apart from Carlisle - Dumfries (carrying passengers) and Carlisle - Kilmarnock (empty - presumably to allow then to go to Hunslet-Barclay).

Both of these restrictions are (or were) in the Sectional Appendix.

158's are allowed to do ECS on some lines, but not do a passenger service because the plug doors might foul the platform edge.

Don't Pacers occasionally end up doing the Carlisle-Dumfries-Carlisle early morning service? IIRC it's normally operated by Northern trains and crew. Also Pacers sometimes go to Springburn for maintenance.

It was with the Track Inspection Coach, and it was due to Mk1/2 route clearance problems; this was despite the branch being used by the same type of stock many times before. Not a problem, meant an early finish for the intrepid crew.

I can't even begin to think why MENTOR would want to go to Cwmbargoed!
