Line Speed Map

I've had to publish a new version of my website but it has made a new map available for line speeds. The previous Route Viewer tool I made now includes it as well.

The data comes from a spreadsheet that Network Rail provided in April 2021 (new version has been requested). The data was then mapped automatically.

Normal and Raised speeds should match NESA. Typically 'Normal' speeds are freight trains whereas 'Raised' is passenger or a specific type of stock i.e. SP (Sprinter) or HST (High Speed).

Interesting thanks for sharing. Do you have a link to the spreadsheet ? Is it a freedom of information? I know line speeds are part of the sectional appendix but a spreadsheet would be easier to read

Go to 'Line Speeds'. I will update it once I receive a newer version (2 weeks time-ish).

An excellent map, but there appear to be a few discrepancies between the colours and the actual linespeed. For example, Oxford-Bicester is coloured dark green (61-80mph), but for the most part the speed listed is 100mph.
Having looked a bit more, there appears to be a "normal" speed of 75mph, and a "raised" and "reversed" speed of 100mph: are these multiple unit differentials or something?

There are also a few errors: for example, between Evesham and Honeybourne the linespeed is 75mph according to the Sectional Appendix, yet it's listed as 50mph on the map. Possibly some confusion over where the 50 limit through Evesham station starts/ends? Hopefully this might be fixed with the new data set.

I don't intend to be overly critical (apologies if it appears so), these are just a few things which I noticed as they're fairly local.

It looks like those pages have been updated since April 2021 but I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

The differentials in speeds is where you see 50/70HST. Where all trains will run at 50mph (normal) and all HST trains will run at 70 (raised). It doesn't have to be HST, it could be SP (sprinter trains), or others. The raw data doesn't say.

It looks like it was an issue on my side of things in processing the file. I've re-published the data so should show correctly now.
