Hello everyone. I've been noticing a short few freight trains that are meant to be sent via the joint line between Peterborough and Doncaster, that has instead been sent up the ECML.

On the 11th of October 4E62 and 6E88 were sent up, today I noticed 4E25 had come up the ECML, any idea as to why this is? Sorry if a silly question
Many thanks :)

It's a good way to regain time if trains are running late.

As for today's 4E25, it was probably due to this 'tree/track interface' issue:

Another diversion on the route between Peterborough and Doncaster recently was 6E04 02:20 Whitemoor - Doncaster Up Decoy on Friday morning.

It was booked to run main line via Newark and Retford, but once it got to Retford it diverted via Worksop / Shireoaks and the South Yorkshire Joint Line via Maltby.

I don't think there was anything blocking the main line, so it might have gone this way to avoid the double run-round required at Down Decoy and St Catherines Junction (with Up Decoy sidings not being directly accessible from the south when coming from the ECML). Normally 6E04 is booked via Lincoln, allowing it to access Up Decoy directly from Bessacarr Jn onto the reversible Up East Slow.

That's pretty cool. Not much uses the Whisker Hill curve these days. I can imagine the wagons squeeling woke up any neighbours
