Lincoln Central services in 1992

Hi, ive recently watched a video on youtube on Lincoln Central in 1992. It shows a 156 (156423 Norwich allocated at the time) arrive on the 1000 from Sheffield, and then goes forward as the 1005 Peterborough service. Was thisna regular service back in 1992? And was it booked a 156 or did 153s used to turn up on it. How many other Sheffield services in the day ran through to Peterborough or Peterborough through to Sheffield? Does anyone have any copies of the Sheffield / Peterborough line timetables from 1992. How often were the Sheffield to Lincoln services back in 1992. Many thanks Noel

Seems there was a change after the summer 1992 timetable with different through running of Sheffield services beyond Lincoln. I don't have a copy of the winter 1992 timetable, but the Summer 1993 timetable shows the 0841 from Sheffield (and other services) running through Lincoln to Peterborough.

Many thanks for this information it answers quite a few questions. Now i understand why the Neville Hill class 14x and 15x DMU Destination Blinds had Peterborough, Skegness, Sleaford and Spalding on them. Are u able to private message me any pictures of the full 1993 timetable in both directions that you mention above please. Have you any idea what units would have worked the above services at all? The 1990s in Lincolnshire, was (I use it loosely an interesting time).

In 1991 the Lincoln - Peterborough service tended to be operated by class 101 (Norwich Based), Doncaster - Sleaford (Class 142s)

In 1992, could of things happened the changing of the Lincoln - Peterborough service to hourly (but only 8 hours per day) and the introduction of the 153.

The timetable you describe about was part of this. Peterborough trains alternating from Doncaster and Sheffield. I don’t actually remember anything allocated a 156 once the 153s came along. There was one train which was actually formed of 2x 153s, one came from Sheffield the other from Doncaster and went along to Sleaford as a 2 car.

This pattern was short lived as privatisation was on the horizon and Lincoln - Sheffield would become regional railways North East and Lincoln - Peterborough Regional Railways central so through working was eliminated.

In 1992 was 156 423 allocated to Norwich, I remember that Lincolnshire had a a set of 153s that were allocated to Derby. I think the 156s were moved away once the 158s were doing the ”express work” - When the 156s came along these were allocated out of Tyseley. I thing the Derby ones ended up at Newton Heath with the green stripe down the side (replacing the light blue)
