Lincoln and Hykeham question

Hi all

Owing to our pretty rubbish bus service round here on a Saturday morning, and owing to me going to Peterborough on Saturday, I need to walk to Hykeham station to get the train towards Peterborough on Saturday. In the evening though, I don't fancy walking back that way at night(!), so I 'll be needing to travel back to Lincoln Central.

Now, Lincoln is the stop after Hykeham in the Lincoln direction, and the train I'm getting back doesn't stop at Hykeham, so it's not as simple for me as buying a ticket from Hykeham to Lincoln when we get to Hykeham, and there is an easement in the routeing guide that I can double back at Lincoln. So, the question is....

At Peterborough, do I need to ask for an X/S from Hykeham to Lincoln, or do I just travel back to Lincoln and use permissive break of journey on the easement, or do I do something else?

Many thanks
Damon

If I understand you correctly, you just need the Hykeham to Peterborough ticket - BOJ is permitted on the return portion of Off Peak (Day) Returns, so you can 'stop short' at Lincoln as doubling back is permitted :).

Do you mean that you are coming back via Sleaford rather than Newark?

Anyhow it should be valid for going from Peterborough to Lincoln either direct via Sleaford or via Newark using the easement.

Alternatively Lincoln - Peterborough is the same price as Hykeham - Peterborough so if you want to do Hykeham - Newark Stations - Peterborough - Sleaford - Lincoln then just buy a Lincoln - Peterborough ticket.

Hiya - I'll be coming back the same way I went, via Newark, but if I can definitely use break of journey on the easement, that'd be great!

Many thanks

If you're definitely going out via Newark and coming back to Lincoln, I would just buy a Lincoln - Peterborough ticket and start short. This saves the potential argument if, in the very unlikely event, you encounter an unknowledgeable staff.

Okey dokey - can the staff issue a Lincoln to Peterborough on the Avantix at Hykeham?:)

Yes, they should be able to. If they refuse, you can just excess your return portion to Lincoln (should be a zero excess) at Peterborough.

They should be able to. Just tell them that you need to go back to Lincoln rather than Hykeham.

If not then it shouldn't be a problem. A Hykeham - Peterborough ticket can be zero-excessed to a Lincoln - Peterborough ticket as they are the same price. So you can always ask for that excess on the way back at Peterborough's ticket office. In reality it wouldn't matter and if you request the excess from the guard on the way back he/she will more than likely tell you not to worry, even if he/she is not aware of the easement.

Edit: I see that Max is saying the same thing.
