Lime St to Wigan Wallgate 23:15

I've noticed there is a service tonight to Wigan Wallgate at 23:15. Is this a new service??

Engineering-works east of Newton le W. Other services yesterday diverted to Wigan NW.

Set then worked ECS to Newton Heath. Could have been done via NW of course, so the suggestion of a Wallgate crew makes sense.

Thats an unusual train though? I don't think there are any booked passenger services WCML to Wigan Wallgate?

There aren't. More of a one-off DMU positioning move worked by a Wigan Wallgate driver & guard - Lime Street drivers don't sign Wigan Wallgate anymore.

There used to be an ECS move a few years ago Warrington BQ-Wigan Wallgate. It formed the 0759 Wigan Wallgate-Man Vic (now starts from North Western) it also used the good lines that dived under the WCML at Springs Branch. It was worked by a Lime Street driver, as mentioned this route knowledge into Wallgate no longer exists.

This looks to me like a Sunday evening move simply to get the train into the correct position to run the Monday morning service into Manchester. Whilst the engineering work is going on. Normally it looks like it would be the last train from Chester via Stockport.

Usually it's the 2315 Lime St-Manchester Airport but diverted to Wallgate to balance for Monday's workings from the weekends engineering work.
