Seeing as the old style lightbulbs are becoming obsolete (and illegal to import or manufacture), I wonder if any of the preserved lines have given thought to stocking up, as I can't imagine Horsted Keynes or any of the other perfectly preserved stations looking right with sickly yellow low energy bulbs in their light fittings...

I believe train lightbulbs are all non-standard voltages to high-street ones so they probably have their own supply. I wonder if they have an exemption clause?

Isn't it the other way round? Usually (heritage) railway bulbs give off a soft yellow light, whereas LED bulbs have a brilliant white light.

Shouldn't be too difficult to design something appropriate - you can already purchase BC/ES converters to G4. 8-30V G4 LEDs can be imported from Hong-Kong at 99p each - just need a form of pearl-glass cap to go disguise them.

Yeah I suppose you could fake something up to give an approximation of the light from a traditional bulb - but then again you could rig up a generator to fake smoke coming out of a steam engine chimney, but I don't think people would stand for it.

It might seem a minor thing but the glow of a filament bulb creates quite a different ambience from a fluorescant or led light, would seem a shame if that small bit of railway atmosphere ceased to exist just because of an EU regulation...
