Light engine movement from Pengam to Rugby

Over the last three weeks a light engine movement from Pengam to Rugby has taken place , usually twice a week.

Can anyone shed light on this as to the locomotives involved and the reasoning behind this?

I am at the moment unable to visit my local station, Stechford, due to minor health problems.

They stop at Stechford for passing trains at approx 17-25.

Would be grateful for any info

88008 has been the regular loco on this rather interesting working, which appears to be a route learner.

The caption to the second picture speculates that class 88s might end up working the Tesco train from Daventry to Wentloog, but it's quite common for route learners to use traction (such as class 67s) that isn't related to the freight workings the route learning is for. Very many thanks Adrian. The warm weather, if we ever get any! , will see me back at Stechford and further afield, if possible, as I am in my eighties, so have to be careful. Thank you again.

After watching a YouTube video showing an 88 not far from Cardiff Central - I'm interested to know if they are taking over the 66 hauled Daventry to Wentloog Tescos
