After decades of delays and promises the proposed electrification of the Lickey Incline and much vaunted new station at Bromsgrove are emerging with some knock-on effects.
Firstly, two-thirds up the incline there is a dirt-track / viewing area adjacent to the line at Vigo. This area will become fenced and gated by NR.
The dirt track is accessible at present; however, should you visit and find it closed the nearest and safest place to park is Fresh garden centre. Drive under the railway bridge in a northerly direction for about 300 yards along Alcester Road B4096. (if you were travelling up the incline the garden centre is to the left).
There is no footpath on Alcester Road to the dirt track - it is dangerous and you should avoid walking in the road. Turn right out of the garden centre and go to the top of Pikes Pool Lane, turn in to the lane and on the left is a service road leading past a handful of properties. At the top of the service road, to the left of a garage, a public footpath (75 yards) brings you line-side.
The postcode for Fresh garden centre is B60 1PW they have toilets, sell drinks, food and railway books.
When the dirt track is closed the garden centre, service road & public footpath will see an increase in use. This is a quiet rural area and the activities of enthusiasts and courting couples using the dirt track for you-know-what, before leaving behind litter and other unmentionable items, will have been discussed by locals, council & NR.
Local residents, and particularly the council, will happily make life difficult for all of us without any right to redress. Respect local residents right to privacy, particularly along the service road do not park here, and police each other.
Information is posted on The Lickey Incline and Bromsgrove MPD Facebook page as and when. Thank you.
