That's interesting - how was it advertised? Did it just go out of the station and reverse back in via points or a siding?
I suspect (but have no first hand knowledge) that it was in reality permission to use a train to somewhere with non-step facility and catch another one back (which 'should' take the user to a different platform than where they started).

It was the 08 and a coach/van doing shunts as required on request.

There's a picture of the underside of the platform in the June Modern Railways, page 23.

How about Coventry when the lifts were being renewed? Not a bus, but a train between platforms for anyone who couldn't use the steps.
There was a similar Class 08 shuttle at Doncaster many years ago; intended mainly for wheelchairs, etc., but enthusiasts were not turned away. I vaguely remember it possibly being due to a lift being out of action.

I have seen a photo of a D27xx North British shunter on similar duties - I forget where. A wagon was used, mainly to carry parcels trollies etc across whilst the barrow crossong was being replaced, but it seems the odd perambulator also got the rare haulage!

This press release has been up since Wednesday

Rail services are returning to normal at Lichfield Trent Valley station following the completion of platform repair work.

Platform 3 at the station had been temporarily closed for safety reasons, meaning Cross City line trains have been unable to call at the station for several weeks.

However, after Network Rail completed the installation of a temporary support structure the platform has now reopened and Cross City line services are able to call at the station once again from Sunday 5 June.

The completion of the work also means passenger access between Platforms 1 and 2 for West Coast Main Line services will be restored.

During a previous rebuild of Derby (Not the 2018 resignalling, but something back in the 1980s or 1990s), when the subway was out-of-use, and there weren't any lifts back then, a DMU was stabled in Derby platform 5 (then a bay platform) to convey Post Office BRUTE trolleys, wheelchairs (and their occupants), and bikes from one platform to another.
Just a phone call from station staff to PSB, and it all got arranged.
