I saw it this afternoon (Sat) I travelled to Meadowhall by tram from Sheffield and the Evolve bus was in the bottom end of the coach park near Tinsley Viaduct. It was a full length red and white thing, bus body with coach type seats. There were only four PSVs there of which the Evolve was one.
This was the first day of the X1 and I couldn't remember where the return departure point was so I was unable to see how many people used it today.

One of their Eclipses in the South Derbyshire livery, at least they put something decent on it. The dart with urban 90 seating don't bear thinking about.

Just in Uttoxeter can't see any evolve or south derbyshire presence although Select have their President out on it (the 406 circular)

It looks like in November Evolve Bus & Coach are reintroducing a bus service to Goseley Estate in Hartshorne to Swadlincote as they have not long registration it on Bustimes.

Hmm, seems the ‘new’ operations isn’t going too well, what school contracts do they have now? Seems they lost most the John Port school contracts to Linburg.
Being charitable perhaps they had thought Staffordshire would withdraw their tendered service and when it became clear they wouldn't, Evolve decided it wasn't worth it. It seems odd for Staffordshire to continue funding a service when a commercial alternative had been put in place.

It may simply have been the differential between contractual notice periods & registration timescales (we have had contracts with 3 month notice periods quite routinely for instance). They may have had to give Select more notice than Evolve gave them so the cancellation of the contracted service hadn't been able to happen yet, and there may have been complications around different timetables meaning an evaluation of what was being run was needed before activating a contract alteration..

The only other thing I could think of is that their fingers got a bit burnt previously when Hulleys attempted to start the X1, and Staffordshire cut the tendered buses (as per what would normally happen), then Hulleys didn't start the X1 (or only ran it for 1 day) and so emergency tenders had to go out to put the services back on.
If all timescales were followed though, the council should have had just over 2 months notice (72 days) and so the duplication would only have happened for a few weeks, probably nothing too much for Evolve to worry about if they were serious about the route.

What's the significance of 72 days? Is that Staffordshire's contract notice period?

70 days is the standard notice period needed for starting/changing or cancelling a local bus service registration. This is made up of 28 days of consultation with the local authority and a further 42 days of notice to the Traffic Commissioner.

I know very little about this operator, beyond that it has had several names and locations and seems to come and go a bit on routes. Just out of interest, I was viewing Bustimes this morning and spotted the X1 heading north towards Meadowhall. It was recording as VFZ 222 which seems to be an Optare Solo of some vintage. If so, I doubt if two hours largely flogging it up the A38 and M1 will put the passengers in good humour and looking forward to the same on the way back! Am I missing something re this operator? Their website doesn’t help much!

What are Evolve using on the X1 on a regular basis because today it was an old type Solo!
I'm surprised it made it! I think the Solo was used a few weeks back as well.
A Dennis Dart has appeared this week on the Tutbury Jinny in Evolve grey.

That's ok for s small local route but it won't be a great bus if they keep using it on the X1, I've managed to work out on bus times how to find out what's being used on the X1 (the route doesn't appear under Evolve on Bus Times for some reason, can't remember exactly but had to do it the very back way round by way of vehicles, and I think Maps too) and if Bus Times is correct, the X1 has been made up of a mixture of vehicles from elderly Eclipse's, the Solo, and even coaches!
What's more surprising is on Bus Times, the outbound and return times have varied dramatically. Some outbound journeys set off late, some returns have set off early, one return set off late and not many outbound and return have set off on time since the X1 started. I get that the driver may make private arrangements with shoppers to set off if all are back, but I wonder if people feel pressured by other passengers into getting back early, and what about if a non regular passenger is forgotten about?

The X1 is not a registered bus service (it falls outside the registration rules) and thus does not have to comply with open data regulations. It also is unlikely to get picked up by councils to add to traveline for the same reason.
No, in fact, I know of a Solo which was once with the long-gone K&H Doyle, which featured a tachograph, high back seats and most notable of all… overhead luggage racks!

I note on Bustimes, that Evolve appear to have one of the triaxle Volvo /East Lancs Nordics, indeed, one that used to be Notts and Derby 21.. Does anyone know if they still have it? Never seen a picture of it.
I was wondering the same, Its MOT is due on the 9th so if it expires by then it will give an indication it’s not in use anymore. I saw a photo of it, and it might have done the odd school working being a suitable capacity, they did do school services at the time they first acquired it from N+D but I don’t know if they kept any school contracts since it became Evolve bus…

I’m not sure if Evolve are still running the Goseley Flyer as the timetable has been removed from there facebook page and if so they could of informed people that it was not running anymore.

Definitely not good. At least give those who use the system a fighting chance, although saying that I didn't know diamond were dropping the 10. Is the 10 on tender or is it commercial?

It was a tender but I understand Evolve have taken it on commercially (as per the pattern with much of their recent work).
