After a lot of delays, the new tramline in Liège was finally opened on 28 April. This marks the return of this mode of transport to the city; the last tramline was closed in 1968.

Measuring 11.7 km long, the line connects Standard's football stadium to the Pont Atlas via Guillemins station and the city centre. At the Pont Atlas, the line splits into two branches, one to Coronmeuse and the other to Liège Expo (this is also where the workshop is located).

Remarkably, the line has no overhead wires on some sections - here the trams run on batteries. CAF supplied 20 trams of type Urbos 100. Planned expansions to Pont de Seraing and Herstal are put on hold because of financial problems.

I suspect the pylons and wires were seen as ‘unaesthetic’ in the square in front of the station.
