Leyland to Nottingham splits

Next Friday I will hopefully be travelling to Nottingham, however the suitably priced and timed Advances have now gone ().

My question is, is the following tickets valid with the following itinerary?

LEY-CRL Off Peak Day Return £1.70 (Child)
GM Conc Wayfarer £6.00
Derbyshire Wayfarer £6.20 (Child)
ILN-NOT Anytime Day Return £2.65 (Child)

LEY 0927 - 1019 MAN
MAN 1043 - 1227 NOT

NOT 1747 - 1936 MAN
MCO 2023 - 2112 LEY

LEY = Leyland
CRL = Chorley
MCO = Manchester Oxford Road
MAN = Manchester Piccadilly
ILN = Ilkeston
NOT = Nottingham

I've a feeling that even if it's valid I'll struggle to get the Wayfarers sold to me at the ticket office at Leyland as special stock may be required. If that is the case, would I be able to get a permit to travel of some sort then buy the GM Wayfarer at Piccadilly then the same again with the Derbyshire Wayfarer at Sheffield*? Or would I have to get off the train at Chorley and buy a GM Wayfarer there and wait for the next train, and buy a ticket from Grindleford to Sheffield before buying the Derbyshire Wayfarer?

Obviously I'm taking advantage of Condition 14.2 splits here between the Wayfarers and the ILK-NOT return.

Definitely no special stock required for the GM Wayfarer (had several issued in Liverpool) but I can't speak for the Derbyshire one.

All looks fine to me.

I think overlapping Wayfarers are valid, but see the most recent discussion:

You can either go with Puffing Devil's interpretation, which I agree with:

I'd say that it would be valid under the new Terms of Carriage:

14.2 If you are using a Season Ticket, daily Zonal Ticket, or another area based Ticket such as a concessionary pass, ranger or rover in conjunction with another Ticket and the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other Ticket is valid are the same, then the train does not need to call at that station for your combination to be valid.​

Both tickets are valid to Edale on the Hope Valley Line.

There is no mention that the second ticket excludes Zonal tickets.

Or you can go for the ultra-pedantic interpretation that says that, because the tickets overlap in validity, the extra validity means it's not a valid combination.

Such an interpretation would - in my opinion - be absurd, and unlikely to comply with consumer law.

According to Derbyshire County Council :-
Tickets can only be purchased where they are valid.
These railway station ticket offices sell Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets on the day of travel:
Alfreton
Burton-on-Trent
Buxton
Chesterfield
Derby
Long Eaton
New Mills - only open on Mondays to Fridays, until 1pm
Newtown - only open on Mondays to Fridays, until 1pm
Sheffield.

Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets can also be obtained in advance by post.
You do not have to specify your intended dates of travelling when ordering tickets in advance.
Please quote your credit card number and expiry date and three-digit security code, and a full mailing address for the tickets.
Please remember to say how many tickets you want, and whether you want adult, concessionary or group tickets.

Neither the 1043 ex Manchester nor the 1747 ex Nottingham stop at Ilkeston so surely a ticket split isn't valid their? Very few (3 per day) EMT trains stop at Ilkeston - The station is mainly served by the hourly Nottingham to Leeds Northern service.

I was issued with a Derbyshire Wayfarer at Chorley last week.

Unsure if EMT allow the wayfarers to be combined. I am currently awaiting a further response from them having advised them of the above condition. Their initial comment was that they were not allowed unless the train stopped there. Possibly speak with the guard before setting off.

I will advise if I get a further response.

I also wrote to FTP who have not responded.

That is not what the Conditions of Travel say. Did you miss my earlier post?

The customer is using a zonal/area based ticket, the Conditions of Travel have this to say:

4.2 If you are using a Season Ticket, daily Zonal Ticket, or another area based Ticket such as a concessionary pass, ranger or rover in conjunction with another Ticket and the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other Ticket is valid are the same, then the train
does not need to call at that station for your combination to be valid.

If you aren't certain about a rule, it's better to go look it up and familiarise yourself with it, rather than posting potentially misleading information. You're not the first and you won't be the last to find it confusing

As it is allowed under Condition 14.2 of the Conditions of Travel I'd be concerned if it was their policy to try and stop people using this combination.

Can I just point out I did raise my point as a query - with a question mark at the end - making it also a question! And I personally think you would have to have a very knowledgeable guard to deal with some of these combinations!
