Never knew it was going ECS to/from Newhaven, thought it would have been Eastbourne. Wouldnt have thought the Marine section is long enough to hold the train either, but clearly it is.

Thanks for posting :D

Shouldnt be a problem at the marine, used to berth dying 12 car slammers with space for a coach or four to spare... AFAIK the platform road is the only one with a 13car stop mark.

Looks like there is a problem with the ECS to Newhaven as NR have pulled the plug on it, gauging issues.
The latest I've heard is that the ECS will recess at Three Bridges yard overnight then run down to Lewes in the morning.

What this space......if I find out in time!

Hmmm.... any mark 3's in the consist or is it the Kettle?

Shame, wouldn't be surprised to find its a capacity issue - busy little branch in the peak.

Very rare that the crossover at Hampden Park is being used, don't believe it has before in fact (though I can be corrected on that). I'll go down there to get A few pictures of it, thanks for the times and updates :D

Yesterday (wed 13/7) there was a brown/maroon livery charter set sitting in Ely's down loop. Looked like top'n'tail 47s.

Left Hampden Park at 8.39, so 17 minutes late. Also caused delays to other trains, it was a great sight to see though.

Saw it at Gospel Oak just before noon,a minute or two early. A glorious site in all black livery, and surprisingly quite compared to Tangmere at Finsbury Park a few weeks ago! May try and catch it on return this evening. Am new here. Can I post a pic?

Im sorry, i forgot my camera (rather annoying on such a rare event) and the iphone picture is all i managed to get. There are a couple of videos on youtube though (not mine, but a few of them are quite good, credit to the people who filmed them).

Was a good sight to see, most people at Hampden Park had there cameras out (including those who were waiting for a train delayed because of it and the foreign students).

Would be nice for more steam to come down here if im honest.

Evening all, I totally agree with the above statement. It seems vary rare indeed for any sort of loco hauled charter train to appear in this neck of the woods which is disappointing as I for one don't want to pay to go on a charter train and then pay to get elsewhere (eg London) to join it!

Does anyone have any clues as to why so few charters tend to start in Sussex?

What a difference between the two workings.

I was at Enfield Lock for both legs and the Down working was rather sedate by mainline standards, however the Up working was pure magic, as one person can be heard commenting in my video, Hellfire.

In response to the question of why there are so few charters starting from specific places I guess it comes down to economics. Railtour operators would have to look at the likely profits of a trip before deciding on origin/destination.

The Cathedrals Express does tend to throw up unusual trips and looking at the loadings on yesterdays train I think it will be repeated.

If anyone would like to see my attempts at video yesterday, please click on the Railway Video link in my signature.

I was on that excursion. Great fun if a bit tiring. Shame they had to cut out the St.Albans Abbey branch. I read that it is to be turned into a tramway.

ME TOO! A good night out, shame it ended so early... apparently some of the stewards also worked the Aber' trip on Saturday - thats knackering!

I read that it is to be turned into a tramway.

Indeed, was (as most were) really hoping for some rare loco haulage before the points were cut... never mind :( should be good for the area as long as its more than just replacing the trains.
