Can anyone explain why this year Southern have chosen not to provide any additonal services on the busiest night for the east coastway?

From what I can gather - they are not putting any additional trains on to the event but after the event they are. Take a look at national rail enquiries..... according to the site there is a 00:13 LWS to WRH service arriving into Worthing at 01:06. This is not a regular service so must be an additional!
Also a 00:30 LWS to HGS arriving into Hastings at 01:36.

I think you will find it is all to do with the Police and Bonfire Councils wish to try and discourage 'Out of Towners' from attending the event.
By getting Southern to say that there will be no additional trains they think it may keep the numbers down. They have said this for the last couple of years, but in reality there are nearly always a couple of extra trains put on to get people home. I notice there is a LWS to HHE service at 11pm tomorrow as well as the others previously mentioned.
If you are planning on attending tomorrow, make sure you allow plenty of time to catch your train as there is usually a queuing system in place and these queues have been known to go out of the station, along the road over the track and up past the Landsdown pub!

Don't worry i'm managing to get a lift to town. Some of my friends have decided to miss last college lessons to get a train, so they don't have to queue for ages. But gettign back for them will be difficult

I think the event itself has been going downhill for about the last 10 years theres to much interference nowadays from PC bodies. I havent bothered going for the last couple of years.

I do agree that the 'health & safety' brigade have gone way too far these days and you are right that it isn't what it was 10-15 years ago, however it is still a fun night out (as long as it doesn't rain!).

The news on Heart FM Sussex were telling non-Lewis residents to stay away and there will be no extra trains laid on.
When I got into Brighton shortly after 6pm tonight the queue was aparently 40 minutes and the entrance to the queue area had a sign reading 150 minutes from this point! For some reason they had already erected temporary barriers across the exit towards the car park, despite the on-platform queuing area being less than half full. As these barriers are really quick to move, I don't know why they couldn't have kept that space open until it was required to hold people queuing.
Did southern lengthen any of the trains, as they often run 2 and 3 carriage trains along that route. What's the longest Brighton - Lewes can handle?

I'm sure anyone from Lewis wouldn't want to go all the way to Lewes for a bonfire anyway!
The Brighton Platforms at Lewes can take eight carriages I think. Though if you reversed at Haywards Heath you could get twelve there.

They run 4 extra Brighton-Lewes-Brighton trips around the 1800-1930 mark and replaced a 3.171 with a 4.377.

The only 171s on that route are two car and go all the way to ashford (hence not being electric).
I assume he meant a 377/3 with a 377/1, 2 or 4.

Would the power usage on the BML affect the supply on Brighton-Lewes? I'd have thought they would have separate connections to the national grid?

Apologies, I usd my own (flawed) knowledge to suggest they were 171/3's. Thank you for the corrrection.
However. It wasspecifically said in a controlled document that a 4.377 replaced a (2.)171. I don't know how theydid it or whether they switched the units over before it got to the end of the juice.... Maybe it was a new 377 Hybrid Unleaded that they can fill at Tesco....
